#16 daysofActivism.. Fundraiser at the British High Commission

It was a privilege for AIWM to partner with UK in Malta - British High Commission Valletta to host a fundraiser in support of local charities working to support victims of domestic violence.

The event was held on Friday 25 November, which marks the first day of the United Nations’ annual campaign #16DaysOfActivism against Gender-Based Violence, as well as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The UN campaign runs through to 10 December, Human Rights Day.

Gender-based violence is one of the most systemic and widespread human rights violations of our time, with 1 in 3 women experiencing violence in their lifetime. The UK is committed to ending violence in all its forms and will continue to work toward a future where all women and girls live free from fear of violence.

The proceeds from this fundraiser will support the SOAR MALTA and FIDEM Charity Foundation. Both charities provide survivor-led initiatives and professional assistance to women and child victims of domestic violence.

As is our way, we had a great raffle on the night with amazing prizes donated to us and some very happy winners! Prizes were: - A sunset cruise on Namowan for four donated by Richard and Mary-Anne Spiteri - A weekend at La Falconeria hotel in Valletta - A very generous voucher for a meal at Palazzo Parisio - A beautiful lamp donated by The House Shop Interiors - And 10 dancing lessons donated by Elaine Zerafa

We would like to thank The British High Commission for their generosity in inviting us to their beautiful residence in San Pawl Tat-Targa, and in particular to the fantastic team there who made it happen.

A good night was had by all with music by Johnnie Grima
